15 Of The Best Beaches in The World

8 September 2022 Posted by: Lake Lawn B&B Travel Tips

‘What is the most beautiful or unique beach you have ever been to? The best beach in the world?’

That is what I asked a number of seasoned travel bloggers.

Not only do travel bloggers travel a lot, they also spend a lot of time researching where to go. They look into what to see, what is unique to write about and where to find the most interesting off-the-beaten-path places.

I, therefore, love to share their travel experiences and I am excited to reveal this unique list of some of the most amazing and most beautiful beaches in the world!

15 of the Best Beaches in the World

1. St. Catherine’s Beach

Location: Bermuda
Best beaches in the world: St. Catherine’s Beach in Bermuda
Best beaches in the world: St. Catherine’s Beach in Bermuda

By: Stephanie Hubka from Roadunraveled.com

“When my family stumbled upon St. Catherine’s Beach in Bermuda, a beach day was not on our itinerary.

It was the last day that our cruise ship was docked at the island, and we were looking for Fort St. Catherine for a quick history lesson and a brief respite from the throngs of tourists crowding the large beaches before settling back onto the boat.

We easily found the fort, situated at the tip of St. George’s Island on Bermuda’s northernmost shore, but we were quick to notice a pristine, deserted beach surrounding it.

This surprise discovery turned into the best impromptu beach experience we have ever enjoyed.

At St. Catherine’s Beach, turquoise waves gently lapped Bermuda’s famous pink sandy shores. We swam in the shadow of the historic fort while palm trees swayed in the breeze.

When we lay on the sand to dry off, we listened only to the sound of birds overhead and the ocean in front of us.

We were the only travelers who discovered St. Catherine’s Beach that afternoon. For a couple of hours, we had a private beach where we could savor the tranquility we sought during our vacation.

That afternoon remains the most perfect beach day I have ever experienced, and St. Catherine’s Beach is still one of the best hidden gems I have uncovered during my travels.”

2. Sunset Beach

Location: Koh Rong Samloem, Cambodia

best beaches in the world: Sunset Beach in Cambodia

most beautiful beaches in the world: Sunset Beach, Cambodia
most beautiful beaches in the world: Sunset Beach, Cambodia

By: Tasha Amy from BackpackersWanderlust.com

“The best beach in the world I have ever been to would be Sunset Beach in Koh Rong Samloem, Cambodia.

Though, unfortunately, it is not the most accessible location. To get here you will need to catch a ferry from Sihanoukville on the mainland. Then once you arrive at the main port of the island it is about an hour hike through the Cambodian jungle. Keep an eye out for snakes, lizards and fire ants!

There are a couple of accommodation options on the beach, so you can find the perfect place to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean. Hammocks are everywhere, so you will have no problem finding a place to relax and a couple of swings have been set up for that perfect Instagram photo.

The orange sand is beautiful against the blue water and the remains of an abandoned pier stand tall in the water.

Underneath the surface is where this beach really comes to life. As soon as you step foot in the water little fish will come and swim around you to investigate. The deeper you go the bigger the fish become.

Expect to see a great variety of fish in the most amazing colors. A little further out I managed to find a family of stingrays exploring the ocean floor. Of course, I kept my distance, watching from above.

This beach is also perfect for watching the sunset. Looking out over the Gulf of Thailand the unobstructed views go on for miles.

The sun sets straight in front of the beach. So, grab an Angkor beer, relax in a hammock and watch the sky become the most beautiful shades of orange, pink and purple.”

3. White Beach

Location: Boracay, Philippines
Best beach in the world: White Beach, Boracay, Philippines
best beach in the world: White Beach, Boracay, Philippines

By: Michelle

“Boracay, an island in the Philippines, is a great beach destination and has some of the nicest beaches in the world.

Its most famous beach is called White Beach – and with good reason. Bone-white sand combined with crystal clear turquoise blue waters make this the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen. Hands-down.

Factor in the warm weather, and the urge to dip your toes (or your whole body) in the water becomes irresistible.

The seabed slopes very gently down from the beach, so you can wade very far out without the water even coming to your knees!

You can buy a float from one of the many shops lining the waterfront and relax on the water (my personal favorite activity), or sip a juice in the shade (my second-favorite).

Other popular activities include parasailing, island hopping, and exploring the island on an ATV. Just don’t forget the reef-safe sunscreen if you’re going in the water!

On the other end of the island, Bulabog Beach is world-famous for kite-surfing. I don’t kite-surf, but I stayed there on one trip, and it was a treat to see these kite-surfers making mind-blowing jumps from the comfort of my balcony.

I highly recommend Boracay to fellow beach bums!”

4. Bloubergstrand

By: Maria Aardal from Both-Paths.com

“Bloubergstrand is a beautiful beach in Cape Town, South Africa.

This beach is not only famous for kite surfing and the perfect picture of a white sandy beach, it is also home to the famous view of Table Mountain. This is the perfect spot to enjoy the view and photograph the famous Table Mountain.

The view from this beach is actually what gave Table Mountain its name and the beach the deserving nickname of Photographers beach.

The beach is also home to many kite surfers because of the great waves. And if you are lucky you might spot a seal swimming along the shore.

On a sunny day, the beach is full of life. Families having picnics, dogs running and children playing in the waves.

The beach is the perfect spot to relax, tan and take amazing photos.”

5. Rodas Beach

By: Inma Gregorio from AWorldToTravel.com

“Along with Ons Islands and a few other little ones, Cies Islands are part of the Marine National Park of the Atlantic Islands. And we as Galicians could not be more proud of them.

Regularly these islands are highlighted as some of the best islands in the world by authority newspapers and big travel magazines.

The Cíes Islands are three islands: Monteagudo, do Faro and San Martiño. Do Faro island is linked to Monteagudo by a 1,200 m (3,937 ft) long accumulation of sand, known as Rodas beach.

It’s unlike any other part of Spain and definitely one of the best beaches in the world I have ever seen!

When you travel to Spain, do visit Rodas Beach and see for yourself how unique this place is!”

6. Lee Point

Location: Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia

best beaches ever: Lee Point
top beaches in the world: Lee Point

By: Alex Ryder from Gingeybites.com

“The day we were at Lee Point it was totally deserted.

We walked its length for what seemed like miles. The beach is lined with trees and there was this one huge tree growing out of the sand which just felt kind of magical and quite mesmerizing to look at.

Whilst we were there we became aware of a loud clicking sound and it took us a few moments to realize that it was hundreds or maybe thousands of tiny crabs running along the sand and burrowing down into the wet sand, leaving little balls of sand behind them.

It was an incredible scene and we felt quite privileged to have witnessed something like that. So if you are looking for a unique beach experience, Lee Point is what I would recommend!”

7. Cabo San Juan

Location: Tayrona national park, Colombia

nicest beaches in the world: Colombia's Playa Arrecifes

Playa Arrecifes in Colombia

beautiful beaches in the world: Playa Arrecifes in Colombia
beautiful beaches in the world: Playa Arrecifes in Colombia

By: Katie Hughes from WhatsKatieDoing.com

“The Caribbean coast of Colombia is pretty special and Cabo San Juan especially so! It has the classic Caribbean granite boulders, warm waters and tropical greenery for shade.

The iconic finger of granite rock with the Colombian flag is very photogenic and pops up in many a backpacker’s Instagram. And, you can even sleep in a hammock on it!

Or if you are feeling less adventurous you can hire a tent just off the beach and still fall asleep to the sound of the waves.

I hiked into Tayrona park the day before my birthday, slept in a tent by the beach and woke up to the stunning sight and sounds of the ocean.

Not only does it look gorgeous, and is perfectly positioned for the best sunsets, but having to hike into Tayrona national park to get there takes some commitment. This also means that it’s fairly kid free and, having to carry most of your food and drink in, also chilled out.

The hike, whilst not too strenuous (it takes about 2 hours and I did it in flipflops), takes you through the rainforest where you can see the local wildlife, including birds, monkeys, iguanas and leaf cutter ants. It also takes you past several other beautiful beaches on your way to Cabo San Juan.

But Cabo San Juan was the main focus. I love exploring places and so the granite boulders had a draw for me to scramble up and over them. The water carves them into interesting shapes and the sand on the beach is the final result of the action of the sea. This means the sand can be fairly coarse at the water’s edge, good for exfoliating your feet!

A stunning and well preserved beach in a national park that is a must visit if you are near Santa Marta, Colombia.”

Tip: instead of hiking to Cabo San Juan from the entrance of Tayrona National Park you can also take a boat from Taganga directly to Cabo San Juan. I do not recommend that!

The boat ride is extremely rough (be prepared to get soaked!). If you are prone to seasickness you won’t enjoy it and the view of the coast isn’t great either.

The hike is gorgeous, and as Katie says; not very strenuous. You really don’t want to miss that hike!

And if you have the time, stay in a hammock on that granite rock. You will be roughing it for a night but waking up on that beach is incredible!

Best beach in the world: Curonian Spit

By: Ana Rozanova from MerryGoRoundSlowly.com

“The Curonian Spit is an undiscovered gem of the north, with its white sandy beaches, spectacular dunes, fragrant pine forests, fresh smoked fish and scenic cycling paths.

Head here, if you are not looking for crowds and parties nor for blazing heat, but would prefer beautiful nature, sometimes chilly Baltic wind and artsy atmosphere.

The Curonian Spit is a 100 km long, 3-4 km broad strip of land in the Baltic Sea. It is divided in half between Russia and Lithuania.

There are five small fishing villages on the Lithuanian side of the spit, all with unique architecture and vibes. The biggest is Nida, which is loved not only by me, but also by the famous German writer Thomas Mann, who had his summer cottage here.

The spit is known for its broad sandy beaches and beautiful sand dunes, reminding of the desert.

In the past, the wind would blow the sand and the dune would move across the spit. It would also swallow the fishing villages while it moved, and the people would build new ones next to it.

This is also one of the best locations to watch the sun. In the morning you can greet the sun rising above the Curonian lagoon on the east, and in the evening you can watch the sunset over the Baltic sea.

Lithuania is a northern country, so the sunsets are much slower than in the south. Grab your blanket, a bottle of local beer and some smoked fish and get a place in the dunes to watch the sky filling with all the shades of gold, red and purple before finally going dark blue and full of stars.”

9. Cabgan Island

Location: Barobo, Surigao del Sur, Philippines
Cabgan Island
Cabgan Island – best beaches in the world

By: Katherine & Hali from TaraLetsAnywhere.com

“With its over 7000 islands, the Philippines has many beautiful tropical beaches and many would say some of the best beaches in the world.

The most famous beaches in the Philippines are in Kalibo, Palawan and Cebu, but few travelers know about this wonderful beach in Cabgan Island.

Cabgan Island is located off the coast of the quiet town of Barobo, Surigao del Sur. It’s the very definition of a virgin island. There isn’t any community inhabiting the island, although you can spot one or two houses among the trees.

Cabgan Island has a long, clear, blue beach. The shore is lined with coconuts and other endemic trees. As you walk along the shore, you’ll find seashells, fruits that had been washed away and even small sea urchins.

Cabgan Island is about an hour away from the port in Barobo. It’s not the only island in the vicinity either. You can also drop by Turtle Island and Vanishing Island, the latter only appears during high tide.

Cabgan Island is one of the most beautiful beaches we’d been to. It’s perfect especially for travelers who want to explore untouched locations or those looking for a beach for simple camping on a weekend.”

10. Playa Chiquita

Location: Costa Rica

Best beach in the world: Playa Chiquita in Costa Rica

By: Jennifer Riley from TheRainbowRoute.com

Costa Rica is not short on beautiful beaches, no matter which coast you are visiting, but Playa Chiquita on the Caribbean coast has to be my favorite.

The soft sand is a perfect place to lounge the day away and the clear waters are perfect for swimming.

There are secret access points to different areas of this stretch of white sand and turquoise water keeping crowds to a minimum.

Backed by tropical rainforest, this beach feels like a true hidden gem and a highlight of any Costa Rica trip. The shape of the beach gives it a few small cove type areas, which adds to the intimacy and privacy.”

11. Kusadasi’s Beach

Location: Kusadasi, Turkey

Kusadasi's beach in Turkey

most beautiful beaches in the world: Kusadasi, Turkey

By: Natalie Tanner from TheEducationalTourist.com

“The beach in Kusadasi, Turkey is my favorite beach I’ve ever seen during all my travels.

It is so beautiful and the water is a gorgeous turquoise. It is easy to see why this area is called the Turquoise Coast.

The weather is warm and sitting on the beach staring out at impossibly gorgeous water is a wonderful way to spend the day!

What makes it the best beach in the world for me is even more than the obvious beauty but the experience I had there.

Though Turkey is a secular state the residents are primarily Muslim. Because of that, I wasn’t sure what I would see for dress on the beach.

It was during this vacation that I learned that covering up for Muslim women is a choice. The beach could have been anywhere in the United States as women wore Western-style swimsuits. I saw bikinis and tankinis on lots of women. Interestingly to me, I was the one most covered up because I wear a sunscreen rash guard and a hat!

We always travel with the kids and it was a great spot to enjoy the surf and sand but also a great spot to illustrate how really alike we all are in the world!

A beach is a great illustration of how people enjoy family time the world over. Kids play in the sand, splash in the surf, and build sandcastles everywhere!

I’d recommend this fantastic beach to anyone!”

12. Hidden Beach

Location: El Nido, Palawan, Philippines

Best beaches in the world: Hidden Beach, El Nido, Palawan

By: Hannah Lukaszewicz from GettingStamped.com

“One of my favorite beaches in the world is an adventure in itself to get to.

The Philippines is full of some of the most amazing beaches in the world but my personal favorites are in El Nido, Palawan.

El Nido is a cute little beach town that requires a long bus ride from the main city of Puerto Princessa or an expensive flight from Manila. Or, if you are visiting Coron as well, take the El Nido to Coron ferry.

We opted for the adventurous long bus ride and when we arrived in El Nido it was so worth it. During the day tourists head out on day trips to the nearby islands. Every trip visits different islands and beaches, and you can’t go wrong with any of them.

My favorite beach is called Hidden Beach, for a good reason of course. You can’t see it from the boat and it’s only accessible at low tide.

In order to get to Hidden Beach you’ll have to swim through a cave and when you pop out the other side you’ll get to hidden beach AKA paradise.

There is no other beach in the world like this, it’s surreal! It is surrounded by limestone cliffs and the most epic landscapes.

If there is any beach in the world I could be at right now it would be Hidden Beach.”

13. Saunton Sands

Location: Devon, England
the best beaches in the world: Saunton Sands
picture by Raimond Spekking – most beautiful beaches in the world

By: Bernadette Jackson from APackedLife.com

“Around the headland from the well-known surfing beach of Croyde lies Saunton Sands.

With three and a half miles of golden sands backed by dunes and beach huts, this is the quintessential English beach.

Populated by locals, dog walkers and tourists, and on one memorable occasion a group of sixtysomethings giving a rousing and word-perfect rendition of Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds, this is the kind of beach to settle into for a long day.

Bring your lunch, your dinner, your favorite book and your bodyboard. Or rent a hut for the day if it looks as though you might be enjoying Devon’s glorious liquid sunshine.

Strike up new friendships with dogs, who will drop a ball at your feet and invite you to play. Go exploring in the rock pools to the right of the beach, or bask in the warm sun on the dunes.

Treat yourself to strawberries and cream on the cafe balcony in the afternoon, or bring chips from the cafe down to the shoreline.

And if you’re down there early, save me hut 14?”

14. The Beaches of San Andres

Location: San Andres Island, Colombia

San Andres Island - Best beaches in the world

By: Rianne Sonneveld from SunnyJourneys.com

“San Andres is a Colombian island, located in the Caribbean Sea east of Nicaragua.

I really love this island and it’s where my husband and I went on honeymoon!

There are lots of great beaches to be found and the color of the sea is amazing. The east side of the island is where the hotels are located, so the beaches can be crowded. But you can rent a golf cart to get around the island and find some amazing beaches that you might get all to yourself.

The island is surrounded by coral reefs, which makes it a perfect spot for snorkeling or diving.

You can go to an area in the sea called the Aquarium, where the sea is colored in many different shades of turquoise and where you can spot rays and lots of other colorful fish.

Or visit the islet of Johnny Cay, where the beaches are beautiful and you can enjoy local reggae music. And this is Colombia, so a party is always around the corner!”

15. My Favorite Beach: Shoal Bay

Location: Anguilla

Shoal Bay, Anguilla - top beaches in the world

Anguilla is a truly unique Caribbean island.

Flat, with incredible beaches and a laid-back vibe. It’s where the rich and famous go to unwind.

They say you go to St Barth’s to be seen, and to Anguilla not to be. Here the talk is about food rather than fashion, and music rather than money.

Thankfully, Anguilla is an easy boat ride away from the much more affordable island of St Maarten and that makes it accessible to the not-so-rich and the not-so-famous as well.

I have by now seen almost all of Anguilla’s beaches and each of them is incredible, but the first one to blow my mind was Shoal Bay.

This beach has the whitest sand and the most crystal clear water I have ever seen anywhere in the world!

The weather is almost always perfect, there are no crowds, no pollution… If I think of unspoiled paradise then this is what I picture and spending a day here was pure bliss.

So if you ever want to escape from it all, go to Anguilla!
